Name: MOODY & BEAUTIFUL Antique Heriz | Timeless Colors with Unique Lighting Motifs

Size: ~ 8 x 11.2

Age: Antique, C. 1930's or so

Pile: Low pile with lots of nice character and patina.  Wonderful age-related wear that not only speaks to its age but also its durability because it's still here to enjoy. Ancient dealer touch-ups which are always to be expected, nice floppy handle, and just a yummy rug, really.

About: This piece is a stellar example of what the iconic tribal dreams of the Northwest mountains are all about! Powerhouse medallion, incredible floral head and jagged leaf border (also known as the Ancient Bakshayesh border), and tons of nomadic geometric filler motifs that are all inspired by the villages of these weavers.  This is what tribal weaving is all about - taking daily life surrounded by nature and manifesting it into your art - and this is what these weavers have accomplished with this piece.  Dark strawberry, deep moody inky blueberry, dark navy, unique denim, and ice blue hues, lots of nice earthy hues, and what is a very nice touch on this piece is that these weavers have used the "light" color in this rug as more of a caramel/camel instead of a starker antique beige/ivory.  This is an AMAZING detail because it eliminates the sobering contrast that some rugs have, and instead the color choice gives the piece sophistication in ease and digestion for the eyes.  It creates a flow that lets you take in the composition, details, and weaver's meri through a smooth transition instead of pieces that make your eyes do work to enjoy.  This piece is effortlessly beautiful - not to mention, the floppiness adds a nice luxurious feel that you'll find in finer Southwest Persian pieces, and in Silk rugs - this characteristic is pretty unique for this family of rug that is known to be much heavier and stiffer.  It is a nice element in textiles in general, but even more so for the room-size village pieces from the Northwest.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom-cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug-weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
