About: An outstanding example of a true antique tribal rug woven in the Northwest Mountains of the greatest rug weaving country in the world. Relentlessly bold, beautiful, and artistic - this piece contains all that us rug lovers and design-obsessed rug fiends look for; colors, age, quality, condition, story, appeal, design, uniqueness, size, etc. This piece has it all. From the camel colors corners to the different sized and colored finials poking out of the oblong medallion, to the greens, pinks, slate blues, and deep midnight indigos - you will marvel at the depth and richness of each color it possesses. The design is timeless and striking, but still finds a way to be unique in it's own right. The different sized border widths are a fantastic human element that says that maybe the loom wasn't 100% straight or the wooden frame of the loom was slightly bent. If you'll notice - mainly in the border there is an area where the navy border turns into charcoal and the Serapi motifs turn from blues to pinks and purples - this is because at some time of this rug's life, it was rewoven and expertly restored - BUT, the crazy part is the master weaver that did the work DECIDED TO USE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COLORS PALETTE! What?! Why? How? Who? It's just so crazy, I've never seen anything like it. Usually, when people restore rugs, they weave them to mimic the rest of the rug and have it as "normal" or "original" as possible - not this person. Whoever did the work made a choice and decided that they were going to add more story to this rug and highlight the imperfections with different colored wool - this to me reminds me of one of my favorite concepts in ancient Japanese pottery repair called Kintsugi (they repair broken pottery with gold-colored glue/highlights to highlight the flaws of the object and reveal the objects story; not hiding the "battle scar" but bringing attention to it as a way of celebrating it. I am obsessed with this idea and that's why I named this rug Kintsugi. I can honestly say with a smile on my face, that this is truly one of a kind and there isn't another rug like it!

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
