Name: HANDSOME Antique Rug | All-Over Berry Colored Antique Rug Northwest Tribal BEAUTY

Age: Antique C. 1940's

Pile: Low with wonderful age-related wear and patina

About this rug: One of the more BEAUTIFUL blooming jungle designs with jagged leaves, serrated flowers and tree motifs, artistic and curling ram horns, incredible layered arrowed stems, and so much more. We can marvel at the colors all day long - tons of rusty reds, berry, sky blues, oxford blues, navy blues, deep indigos, soft camel and antique beige, sensational greens, of course, the highly sought after salmon and rose, and even UNDYED charcoal-grey wool from a different part of the sheep! (see pic 8). This is amazing, and so nomadic. These are the little touches that the weavers do that take this into an entirely another dimension. On top of the colors, the borders in this piece are fantastic. You will note that one of the borders is slightly more narrow than the other 3 - this is because it was the last border to be woven and while this piece was on the loom, the weavers realized that before the loom ended that they needed to fit the last border in and they squeezed it in not compromising any of the motifs or beauty - THIS IS RAW ART. This tells a story and this is what village rugs are all about. On top of this nuance, you'll note a relatively unusual pattern/design that isn't often found in these Northwest pieces - the iconic inverse Fence design AND the highly respected "running water" motif - both in the guard border (see pic 6). This tells us that the weavers may have had influence from the soulful and arguably some of the best weavers in the world - the weavers North of this village in the Caucasus mountains. It isn't crazy to think that this piece was a perfect balance of keeping the breath of the all-over Heriz rugs with a sprinkle of some of the Caucasian patterns that came before them. You don't have to be a rug expert to see and appreciate the beauty of pieces like this, but it is always advised to find in any rug you're considering what makes it unique. And this, you have to learn about your rugs. All we do is try and educate our clients so they can appreciate the art in their homes and transcend the meanings, symbolism, and messages that the weavers before them left for the onlookers that own them. This is a piece that you can pass down to family and friends decades from now because the wool is so strong. We love this piece, and we know you will love to get lost with your eyes inside this blooming geometric jungle of beauty!
