About: One of the most GORGEOUS Sumacs we've ever come across! Deep purples and lavenders with denim and navy that anchor the rug, then the highlights of antique beige, fruit punch and red, lovely charcoal blacks, sky blues and army greens! It's a pretty incredible color palette and the tri-medallion pattern adds that bold and casual feel with sensational geometric flare. The mountain-inspired motifs, the pinwheels, and other nomadic motifs add so much interest for the eyes and heart! The beautiful tulips that poke out the border actually double as the iconic Turkish and Anatollion Bird motifs you see in old Turkish textiles! So good. Birdwing inspired border that's nice and tight creating a nice contrast against the open and bold field of the rug, and the rare and really special fact that the word "Ramadan" is woven into the rug which could only mean to us that this was woven during the holy month of Ramadan that these weavers of faith practice - Ramadan of course representing the idea of gratitude for life and not taking life for granted by fasting while the Sun is up to try and empathize with the poor and less fortunate that don't have food every day. This is an attempt to put ourselves in the shoes o the less fortunate to ground and humble us all. And not to mention, the rug is dated that roughly translates into the rug being about 70 years old. This is one of those unique pieces that you will love to look at every single day, it's a complete SHOWSTOPPER! Nice floppy handle with it's fine weave and natural wool weave on wool foundation. Make sure to get a pad as it will help with adding some nice cushion and help eliminate some of the wrinklings and folding that sometimes comes with thinner rugs, flatweaves, and sumacs alike. You will LOVE this piece!
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects. Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!
We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
