About: I can't believe this rug exists. It is truly a remarkable example of extremely fine weaving, a master vision, and an interesting combination of around 30% traditional with 70% tribal. The classical elements are drawn from the iconic Veramin or Mina-Khani design that is essentially a lattice pattern with vines connecting to beautiful flower palmettes. The border is this abstract and playful yet refined boteh subject design that is repeating throughout. These two different scaled patterns work beautifully together to create this push and pull, while the colors start to melt into our hearts and before you know it, you are helplessly in love with this piece. It REALLY is just so unusual; black field as the canvas for the Spring, Olive, and army greens to play, highlighted by the magenta outlines of the vines, that coordinate with the main base of the border. All of this is softened up and brought back down to earth with the caramel and mocha hues we see and soften with the antique beige. Focusing on just one flower in the field, and you will see an artist exposed as her true self - confident in her color choice, in her ability to depict a flower from wool and dyes. We marvel at the serrated boteh outlined motifs with the growing flower or tree inside - this depicts the circle of life; seed, to flower. Even the stylized elements of this motif are so beautifully done, adding length movement, and airiness to a somewhat rounded motif. It's the ice-blue hues that offer a warm and earthy living and breathing work of art some coolness as she places her stamp on the border making it impossible to ignore, then freckled into the flowers between the green vines in the field. Each knot tight so tightly, and packed down making for a tight/dense knot count, and therefore sharp and crisp painting-like clarity of design where we can follow each line like a train does a railroad track. I've simply never seen anything like this combination of colors and design, where the timeless Veramin design meets this abstract boteh border. The field speaks to me as "infinity" as it just seems like it will go on forever, and the black in the field adds to this thought that the rug is vast and as deep as the universe - and that idea coupled with the representation of "life", "grow" and "fertility" as the both are symbolic of - all together tells me perhaps this rug was woven for this idea of immortality. This is all my take on this piece, as we all see things and form these meanings that may have never been intended.... but then again, knowing exactly what she intended here would of course remove the mystery of her message to the onlooker - and what fun is that? ;)

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available. Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
