Pile: Low with patina and ancient old restoration and repairs
About: This piece is grand with the iconic medallion and classical arabesque vines scrolling and meandering around it inside the field. The epitome of what you get when a design is inspired by architecture and nature - vase-like curves abutting stems with flora growing from it - a true beauty. The wool is incredibly soft as it is all spun by hand, and the dyes are muted and aged with a very calming yet deep palette. Moody copper and apricot hues glow from one side and get deep from another - all with a subtle sheen due to the natural lanolin in the wool. Coral and salmons with mocha will find their ways inside and around the motifs alongside deep navy/midnight blue with softer teals and even green will add the cooler and earthy feel, all with no pop - rather a sophisticated and refined old-world feel that is soothing. Because, of course, what is more, old-world than these pieces that date back to designs that are from dynasties from the 16th century! There is this sense to be that this piece wants to be loud and obnoxiously beautiful - like a young supermodel - but instead, I look at this piece and see that there is no ego. The desire to be attractive is not there like in newer rugs, it is this lack of need to please anyone that this piece has that elevates its status and beauty. The grace and confidence are what draw me in - and once you're in - you admire every little nuance, every "wrinkle" so to speak, and see that old-aged wisdom that our grandmothers have - from experience and living genuinely. This is what this piece reminds me of - my grandmother, which I'm still fortunate enough to listen to her stories over tea and Persian sweets. This piece Has genuine age and patina, with some minor repairs of tears and places that needed some tidying up. With this kind of age, you will have these issues and so long they're taken care of responsibly, they're welcomed. The price reflects these repairs but at the end of the day, I'm a purist when it comes to rugs so I welcome all the battle scars as each gives us another talking point and moment to remind us we are all imperfect and still beautiful.
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
