Name: Iconic Serapi from the Northwest Mountains
Size: ~ 10 x 12
Age: Antique, C. Early 1900's, ~ 120-130 Years Old
Pile: Low with Antique Patina
About: ONE-OF-ONE TRUE SERAPI from the Mountains of Northwest Persia. Incredibly rich saturated yet refined colors drank by strong and robust sheep's wool from remote regions of the world. Double madder-root border and field that departs from the typical contrasting border and field color. This use of similar colors in both areas creates a larger-than-life feel and actually helps the center medallion stand out more, and of course, accompanied by the gorgeous 4 corner spandrels. The condition of these old pieces are always to be discussed; Ancient old restoration and every single noteworthy issue that this piece has will be restored all done by hand, all done with love, care, soul, and pride by master weavers - the same way this piece was woven nearly 120 years ago. Due to its age, the fringe ends are worn into the border but somehow it's only a few inches on each side - sometimes the border on the fringe sides are gone altogether but they are intact on this piece. Incredible to think after all this time, 120-year-old organic wool, dyes derived from the Earth we all share, and techniques passed down that dates back to over 2,500 years ago that we are in the presence of such timeless and powerful art in the condition that it is in. True beauty never dies, high-quality materials always last, and the story and soul of this piece will continue for another 120 years without a doubt.
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces - irregularities, ancient old repairs/touch-ups, and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
