About: An INCREDIBLE piece from the Northwest Mountains of the best rug weaving country in the world. These pieces are woven with nice tough wool that lasts for generations, and all-natural dyes derived from vegetables, plants, and minerals. This piece has a nice strong and masculine feel, all while incorporating the feminine filler motifs that dress it up and take it into the next dimension! Every color in the crayon box with a highly-prized navy ground. Typically these pieces are some shade of red, but the blue ones are always a favorite amongst designers and rug enthusiasts because of it's rarity and aesthetics. On top of that, red is always a hit-or-miss color in design, where shades of blue tend to be a bit more timeless. Exceptional greens, earthy mocha, pinks, rose, salmon, coral, berry hues, etc., all softened up with wonderful un-dyed sheep wool beige. The size is always nice because these weavers wove these pieces often for domestic use when speaking about rugs that mainly came out of the first quarter of the 20th century. Their use didn't call for a huge rug in these regions, but much more a squarish shape and size to fit their needs for their living quarters. Also, the international market around this time started wanting decorative colors to help the British and European designers decorate around and with these rugs. It wasn't until around th 1920s or so that America started catching on to decorative rugs and hence after the 20's rugs started getting shipped over to America with lots of Reds because that was a sought-after color here. Blue typically leaned towards Europe but eventually the beauty of these all colors started popping up in homes all over the world and the renaissance of rugs was resurrected - this is why pieces from the 1930's and older are much, much more beautiful from the eye's of rug lovers because that's when the dyes were for sure natural, the designs were a bit more spontaneous as they were woven less for the commercial market and more from the weaver's heart. This is a perfect example of a piece woven right before rugs started becoming "cool" or "popular" to the world. Like most arts, they're always the "best" before they hit the mass market! If you can use this unusual size, this is a FANTASTIC piece with really nice charm and patina, and an overall gem!

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces -  irregularities, ancient old repairs/touch-ups, and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
