3.3 x 9 | Soulful & Moody Antique Tribal Runner | Leah

$1,198.00
*All of our antique & vintage rugs are professionally cleaned prior to being listed.* Name: Leah Size: 3.3 x 9 Age: Antique Pile: Low with patina and ancient touch ups About: One of our most moody and symbolic runners packed with soul and charm. Deep blues shift to softer blues and back to rich blues as the abrash in the field is subtle but apparent. The iconic fence border in a piercing turquoise wards off any evil also with incredible terra-cotta and salmony-rust Abrash. Lots of clay tones, “dirty” antique beige, soft blues, peach and many more hues. Great animal motifs as guards of the rug and the comb motif woven many times as a sign of purity and cleanliness; meaning the weaver was clear headed and even had a clean environment/workspace. And last but not least, the Boteh design symbolizing growth and fertility steals the show with the all over design in the field and notably the inside of each Boteh motif showcases the full evolution of life; from seed to life to the “other side”; with other arbitrary meanings as well. All in all, a fantastic piece with wool pile and wool foundation speaking to its nomadic nature and tribal essence. This rug will look different in different lighting and settings, it has a nice overall moody tone to it that will glow a little in natural light and get more moody/Smokey in a darker setting, they are very versatile! I took the photos with my iPhone and they read a bit more saturated with deeper contrast on the phone, so just a heads up; however an incredible rug is an incredible rug anyway you look at it. There are some ancient repairs and re-weaves that are so well done it adds to the depths and charm - I truly wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve pointed some of the repairs and symbolism out in the photos, if you need more or have any other questions just ask! This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available. Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects. Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out! We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding. A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
