Name: Pomegranate Tree of Life
Size: 4.2 x 6.2
Age: Antique 1940's
About: Alas, a true work of art unlike no other; the Pomegranate Tree of Life. This piece is OVERFLOWING with symbolism; the plethora of birds, the cows eating at the base of the tree with the seed inside, the prosperous amount of pomegranates, the depiction of the root of the tree, and even the color palette chosen for this piece - it all tells a story. One that begins with a vision of the weaver. An artistic heart and soul with a deep love for nature and life. When these pictorial rugs are woven with this many animal motifs in a peaceful and calm scene, they are also referred to as the "paradise rug". There is a sensational amount of abrash in this piece, the border is phenomenal, and the fact that this rug is pure wool pile with 100% wool foundation speaks to it's nomadic nature. This is true art, perfect for a foyer when one walks in, the side of a bed, in the kitchen, a kids room, or anywhere else that people can see and enjoy this rug. This piece stands for life, birth, growth, prosperity, love, nature, and all things beautiful. The reason why pomegranates are so symbolic in our culture is because it used to be the fruit of the king, it is one of the only pieces of fruit that you must work to get to and eat, the juice was/is sometimes used to dye wool to weave rugs, and even the little pieces look like little rubies! Not to mention this fruit is delicious and amazing for you! :) Subtle color run in some areas but nothing notable really at all. We know the owners of this piece will enjoy it and what it stands for forever; we're excited to see where it goes!
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.
Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out! We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
