About: I'm going to go ahead and say this is my NUMBER 1 favorite rug that we have. This is from the Northwest mountainous region of one of the greatest rug weaving districts in the world. Arguably the most iconic tribal design ever woven - you will see this design all over the place but you must be an educated buyer when you buy these pieces. This rug is authentic, all-natural vegetable dyes, genuinely aged, etc. This design was popular 2500 years ago and will be popular until the end of time - therefore many countries weave this style of rug and it is woven in many qualities. Not saying you shouldn't buy those rugs, I'm just saying know what you're buying; some of these new rug sellers will call rugs different things and the wrong name so just do your homework! Anyway - let's talk about the rug! You will note the bold and powerful center medallion surrounded by leaf, branch, vine, and floral motifs, along with the incredible 4 corner spandrels with a beautiful layered-like feel. This rug has every color you can think of, and notably black and camel. These two colors are my personal favorite in rugs - I think black anchors the rug and adds a nice heaviness and body allowing all the other bright and rich colors "play", and the camel is a perfect contrast color that isn't too stark but adds some lightness in its own earthy way. And of course the french blue, blue/greens, yellows, beautiful rusty-red, salmony-rose, beige, sky blue, and more. Very slender European size that is perfect for any minimal and lighter space while being the piece that you can't ignore. Age-related wear and patina that I can have my grandfather secure. If you'd like us to re-bind the sides of the rug to give it a cleaner look - my grandfather can do that too (some clients want an old rug but still very neat, tidy, and clean looking). Hands down one of the most attractive rugs I've ever seen in my life.
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available. Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.
Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!
We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
