About: Sophisticated Rustic Dream, Ralph Lauren style, Mint Authentic Antique Persian Serapi Carpet. Hailing from the Northwest Mountains of Iran (Persia), this rug couldn't be anymore the epitome of a timeless Persian Tribal rug. When you think of huge old estates in the early 1900s, EVERY one of them had one of two Persian rugs; either a Persian Serapi and/or a Persian Sarouk. Why? Because these two carpets, in particular, were so sought after in the American market after incredibly talented English and British Interior designers started outfitting royalty, and other prominent and wealthy family's homes with these carpets. The design became iconic around the world, and many Heriz rugs were created because of this demand - but don't be fooled or confused, Heriz rugs and Serapi rugs are not one in the same. Serapi is the grandfather of Heriz, Serapi is the role model of Heriz, Serapi is the old wise teacher and Heriz is the young eager student. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Heriz rugs, but not when you lay it next to a Serapi. Serapi rugs are more refined. They are more clear. They carry a sense of responsibility in them, a sense of reputation. They are what many of the beautiful tribal rugs today inspire to be. This is the Marilyn Monroe of rugs. The Rolls Royce of fine Persian tribal rugs. Just know that there is a sense of class that is immediately attached to this rug - as in you know a lot about a person when they decide to purchase a Serapi - you know their taste is top notch. This all-encompassing medallion is the epicenter and star of this rug, but we must give respect where respect is due - the weavers spent their dear sweet time on making sure the 4 corner spandrels were every bit as beautiful, and the timeless samovar/turtle border also get the attention it deserves. This Serapi is nearly in mint condition, with classic rustic colors; rust, clay, antique beige, camel, tan and khaki hues, a lovely rose color with shades and variations of soft to medium blues, a delightful teal and blue/green shades dancing throughout, and of course grounded and anchored by the deep piercing indigo. I tried to point out all the great abrash and variation where the weaver decided to change colors to create this all natural and organic organized chaos, as they should. I also pointed out the two love fish swimming around the world motif in the last pic (if you don't know what that is, you're buying rugs from the wrong people that are stealing the best part about the motifs and design - ancient folklore and stories are rooted into the designs and are suppose to be told. Just message me and ask about the love fish motif and I'll explain it to you!). The tight compact and densely woven knots give it it's sharp crisp design and real clarity. When I say Ralph Lauren Style, I mean that Ralph Lauren, the fashion icon, has a handful of Tribal Persian Masterpiece rugs, including, you guessed it, Serapi. And what color palette is more RL than rustic, Arizona/New Mexico/Montana colors as shown in this Serapi. Art should draw out emotions, warp you into new locations and dimensions, and create a universe - all in the matter of a few moments from the time you view it, to the time your eyes digest it and your mind process it - when I look at this piece, it takes me to a wooden ranch in Montana where you can see the mountains not too far away, or the vast mountainous and beautiful colors at dusk in Santa Fe, New Mexico, or the deserts of Arizona with hints of that soft green cactus color poking through the binoculars as you gaze out into the distance. Looking at this rug literally makes me feel more rugged, tougher, but all within the confines of elegance and class. A sophisticated rustic dream, indeed.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available. Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you:  Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you.  Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams.  Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world.  All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind.  Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story.  The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that.  Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
