About this rug: Unbelievable character in this piece.  This is one of the most attractive rugs we've ever seen.  All-encompassing anchor medallion design with deep indigo finials poking out to balance the entire piece.  Beautiful variations of rusty-reds that are cooled down and softened up with the highly-prized French blue corner spandrels.  Inside these corners are decorated with deep indigo, salmon, and blue-green geometric flowers jutting out of the perimeter - so much detail in every corner you turn in this piece.  Fantastic earthy camel hues to ground the rug as this was one of the colors that this village was known for and one of the clear indicators that this piece is from the first quarter of the 20th century.   A color that rug enthusiasts yearn for is the celery and mint green that makes appearances throughout the floral petals, not to be outdone by it's older brother - that Spring green that finds its way to outline much of the elements in the medallion and geometric motifs inside the field.  These green hues are always sought after as, counterintuitively, they were the most difficult colors to dye to wool back in the day.  So, if you look closely you will see that some of the greens were made of yellow and blue dyes mixed together and you will see the variations of these hues poke through around the green-colored areas - incredible!  This drawing is one of the most artistic tribal drawings of the iconic medallion Heriz designs, and looking closely you will see the spontaneous and asymmetrical elements that fill this piece up.  The size of the border slightly changes as the rug is woven, the many imperfections in the shape of the piece adds charm and an organic feel, and the difference in space between vines and flowers, mountains motifs, and serrated leaves are all different - indicating that there was no map or template these weavers were weaving from, it was pure heart and imagination. A real gem this one is.  This piece is very old, so naturally, it comes with age-related wear and patina.  There have been ancient old repairs that we have re-inforced, and slight buckles and bends that the pad will help with to straighten out.  We will secure the fringe by hand to keep it secure and prevent it from unraveling, all while keeping it's original and untouched look!

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
