About: The most desired rug on the market; the all-over navy ground sprawling Northwest tribal rug from my favorite village to ever weave rugs. This iconic design is not only uncommon but even more so in this deep midnight blue and inky-indigo field. Not to mention the wild characteristics that distinguish this piece from the rest of the flock. The amount of teals and blue-green in this piece is incredible, all to be accompanied by old rose, salmon, and coral hues. Fantastic camel and earthy dawn in some of the elongated leaf motifs and running along the guard border of the piece. The border of this rug is an antique rusty autumn color that is perfect because it's not too red - it is toned down and a perfect compliment top the deep cool colors it has. Not often will you find this design and even this village to weave the iconic Fence design in the perimeter of the field to protect the rug from harm, negativity, and ward off evil spirits. Each fence inside the motif are different, as it should be. The large anchoring motifs manifested as palmettes in the rug are great focal points for the eyes, as the playful filler and geometric weavings throughout the rug add the depth and personality. Iconic turtle border design speaking to the rugs "roots" and on top of all of this - the one of a kind abrash showing up in teals and blue-black throughout add the birthmark we are always looking for. This is one of one. The condition is SUPERB. You will not find another in this condition, and you will not find another with the combination of these specific elements I've laid out above. The size alone should make your spidey-senses go off - where will you find a 9x12.6 piece? The extra 6 inches is ideal for a long dining space if you have a large table and entertain a lot, or it's perfect for a larger space with a larger sofa because every inch matters when there are larger items and furnishings in the room. This rug's wool is incredibly strong and durable. All hand-spun with natural vegetable dyes. The blues from the indigo plant, the reds, and rusts from madder root, the tans from camel hair, the beige is undyed sheep wool, the greens from shrubs, and a mix of saffron and indigo, and the pinks and salmon colors from flowers in the fields. These are the types of pieces rug enthusiasts, fashion icons, collectors, art buffs, and interior designers have in THEIR own home, let alone hunt down for their high-end clients. They're just rare, beautiful, authentic, and every bit fascinating. Mystical pieces like this speak to the eyes, heart, and soul every time you look at them.
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.
Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!
We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
