Age: Antique

Pile: Incredible Medium pile, very lush and soft wool

About: This is a piece I would put in my home no questions asked. I named it after my favorite Greek God, Apollo, the God of the Sun (amongst other things). This piece is powerful like the sun, all encompassing like the sun, and has an incredible sheen and energy like the sun. A sensationally rich Antique piece from one of the best rug weaving villages in the world. So few can capture the tribal essence of a rug, and yet while somehow keeping the classical and elegant feel. This piece is soul meets beauty, nature meets poetry, and imagination meets talent. They didn't take any shortcuts in the creating of this piece - from the incredible quality of the wool to the very weave and the improvised weaving techniques of the drawing and design of the rug. The asymmetrical elements unearth the freestyle weaving but the design in its entirety shows us that it was well thought out and done by true artisans. The field color of this rug is the deepest and most velvety indigo meets midnight blue meets navy you've ever seen - all softened up with the rust and salmon, corals and rose tones, mocha and camel, beige and saffron, and even peacock blues and jade-like teal greens - REMARKABLE. And then the border... have you ever seen a soft saffron/camel border frame the deepest ocean of beauty? Have you ever seen the daring use of this border color to become the second most used dye in the rug? Usually, that earthy mellow earthy color is a highlight color - but they pushed the limits and stamped their uniqueness on this piece. Perhaps it was 2-4 women that wove this rug - everyone onboard to create something worth talking about. And when I say talking, I mean speaking to your eyes, your soul, your heart, and your friends as you sit around and admire it. The onlooker can't ignore it, and it is a subtle unique quality it possesses, but over time it will absolutely exponentially grow as one of, if not your favorite thing about this piece. It is tough to decide what the best element is; the arabesque and infinitely botanical design? The highly prized color combination? The symbolic use of Blue and Brown signifying the balance between the Sky and the Ground? Maybe the use of jade teals and sushi salmon? Or maybe it's the softness and unbelievably lanolin-rich wool they used to hug your bare feet with every step you take on this cloud. It really is just a world-class piece that will elevate any space it finds - there is no doubt about that.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available. Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
