Pile: Low with age-related patina and responsible restoration throughout. See pics as I've pointed some out. If you want this one area properly re-woven (see pic 12), we can do it no problem but we will need a little time (around 1-2 weeks so my grandfather can do it); this will be around $250; Otherwise, we can secure it so it is sound and won't unravel in 1 day - free of charge.
About: A truly remarkable piece with unbelievable natural dyes that glow like they did 100+ years ago. I simply cannot believe this color palette. I thought the weave was insane, and it is, I thought the size was rare, and it is, but the amount of greens and blues with variations of each soaked up in every single knot is beyond my wildest dreams. Of course, for an old piece it is perfectly refined and sophisticated with matured dyes, but dang those dyes are so real and raw that not even a century could dull them down enough to ignore. It isn't all because of the dyes though, the top-notch quality of the wool also is a big factor - this wool drinks up the dyes like a camel drinks water on a hot day in the Sierra. This piece is truly a very, VERY special rug. A gorgeous decorative interior designer's dream, while still being a high-end collector's item - best of both worlds!
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
