Name: RARE Antique 20 Foot Lanoloin-rich wool Sarouk Runner

Size: ~ 2.9 x 20.6

Age: Antique

Pile: Low/Med

About: This GEM was in the home of a very wealthy family on the East Coast and came from their stairs. You will note the impression that the piece has (see pics) where the piece was untouched on the riser and had traffic. It is a GLOWING example of pure wool pile with incredibly rich lanolin that gives it a shine and a glow from any direction. The colors are fascinating with deep indigos, lake blues, Spring green, beautiful camel, salmon and apricot, blush and pinks and more! The artistic design speaks to the artist in all of us as the negative space offers the botanical growth of the flora and palmetts to bloom throughout. This pattern draws our eyes in and the colors arrest us for longer - the feel underfoot is so soft that you'll be walking back and forth on this piece all day! Happy sheep equal happy wool and needless to say these sheep must have been joyous! If you're using this piece on stairs, that would be great and you can have the installer follow where the rug used to be on stairs as most stair sizes are standard - if you are using this is an unusually long hallway - the chances of you genuinely noticing the difference of the levels of pile (some pile is higher in areas and lower in areas) is slim, but we could always shave a little of the pile down to try and keep it as even as possible. If you would like us to do this, this is all done by hand and a tedious job, but we've done things like this before and we're happy to do it for you - just let us know and I can give you a quote (~$400-600). If you truly have a space for this piece, it is one of the most GORGEOUS runners we've ever seen, and the fact that it is this narrow and this long is a highly prized piece. The size, quality, and colors indicate that it was possibly commissioned out back in the day to be woven for a very wealthy family because there is no rhyme or reason for this piece to exists other than some visionary said to him/herself - "I want a gorgeous draping beauty to decorate our stairs or run the entire length of our hallway" and in that moment the inception of this piece was birthed! You will not find another piece like this, ever, so if you're considering it - you are the good kind of crazy and bold! Can't wait to see where this piece ends up.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
