Name: ROYALTY MEETS ART | Very Unusual Color Palette in Highly Botanical Whimsical Dancing Vines

Size:  8.8 x 11.9

Age: Antique C. 1930-40's

Pile: Low/Medium with nice age-related patina.  This piece has been expertly restored and secured all by hand.  The one area that you may see in the photos where there is white fraying and distress that is threadbare, that has been taken care of.  You will note the before/after photos.  If you see any photos of the rug in its entirety with the white damaged area, that is now taken care of. We photographed this piece originally before the repair was done and that is why you may see them in the photos.  If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

About:  This is PURE GOLD.  We will NEVER see another piece as beautiful as this one from the city this piece was woven in.  This family of rug has been some of the most desired and collected from wealthy, powerful, and aristocratic families all throughout the Middle East, Great Britain, & Europe.  It was only around the early 1900s that these pieces caught the eye of the American market - and when they did - the rest was history.  These pieces were woven in large sizes with distinct hues that spoke to both the color-loving humans, as well as the subdued and softer airier decorating palettes.  These are the pieces that make for some of the most versatile rugs ever woven - you can place both white linen sofas on top of these pieces, or sleek black leather furniture all the same - ultra-modern, ultra-refined, ultra-traditional, or eclectic and personal - it doesn't matter - this piece will work.  The arabesque vines dance throughout the piece as if they were listening to classical music played by the palmettes in the field as the dainty flora around the perimeter of the rug applaud the performance from beginning to end; however, there seems to be no beginning or end - this design is one of those infinite designs that twirls and swirls as organic as the wind blow a leaf around a park, and as precise as a bee traces her path from nectar-rich flora to nectar-rich flora.  There is no other classical piece that will come close to matching the detailed composition that this piece has, while still being able to navigate it so effortlessly.  I can't think of a more complex design where every single square inch is filled with a motif inspired by the gardens, nature, and Mother Earth, mixed with the weaver's creativity, visions, and dreams - yet when we look at this piece we can hardly call it busy; we call it calming - how is this possible?! It is because the weavers are not only talented artisans who have mastered the technical skill of hand-tying a single knot around two verticle pieces of foundation, but also because they understand color combinations, the relationship between linear & rounded motifs, and the subconscious transitions moving from one square inch to another with zero friction - true masters.  Imagine looking at a gigantic garden full of the most beautiful flowers in the world; each flower distinct in its identity, beautiful in a silo, all while playing nicely with the other thousands of flowers dancing in the wind next to it.  You aren't overwhelmed by the thousands of flowers, you are energized by them - your eyes drink up the scene in a digestible and enjoyable way - this is what looking at this piece is like.  Or imagine standing on stage playing your instrument in a flow state like never before, the spotlight pounding down on you and you are letting the sound ooze out of you as if you were the only person in the world - but for a moment you open your eyes and see the thousands of people sitting in the audience glued to your performance, you don't see a single human, you see an ocean of energy - they are one.  That is what looking at this piece is like - countless flowers, vines, leaves, and floral arrangments are woven together to create one carpet, a masterful piece of music for the eyes.  Then you close your eyes and touch this soft lanolin-rich wool.  It takes you back to the nomadic villages where the sheep roam the high-altitudes of the region and soak up the sun and refreshing wind at the same time.  Cared for by humans that treat them like family, because they are, we all are.  This wool is taken and washed, hand-spun then dunked and dyed in the most beautiful dies you've ever seen in your life; slate blues, soft plum, pastel pinks, vivid teals, earthy caramels, and more.  Then taken out and dried under the power of the sun to make sure each strand of wool is kissed by the almighty Apollo, to then be sorted and woven one tiny knot at a time to create this absolute, jaw-dropping, magnificent rug 75+ years ago... and here we are today, you are reading this from your computer or phone and looking at pictures that we've taken for you after we've deep washed this piece, restored some of its age-related patina, secured both sides of the fringe to prevent it from unraveling and cared for it like it was fragile although it's fragility laughs at us as she's seen and experienced more life than we can ever imagine - this tough, nearly bullet-proof iron-strong beauty is good to go for another generation for you to enjoy.  What are the odds that this piece found you?  What are the infinite coincidences that had to elapse for our paths to have crossed yours and for this piece to possibly become your muse for decades and decades to come?  How beautiful is that? This is the splendor of antique carpets, and this is the very thing that we are absolutely obsessed with sharing with the world.  This piece means a lot to us, and it is essential that the new owner cares for it and adore it the way we do.  Each piece is important, but some speak to certain people more than others - this one speaks to us in volumes - we hope she speaks to you the same.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
