About this rug: GORGEOUS Lattice Pattern throughout this piece with one of THE BEST BORDERS WE'VE EVER SEEN. Not only is the field of the rug FILLED with nomadic human elements of women and girls (possibly inspired by the very women or the family of the women who wove this piece), but also protective animals to guard the rug from negativity, as well as trees, plants, shrubs, flora, and other nomadic elements found around the surrounding environment. I've named this piece Barcelona because it reminds me of my time there; walking through the streets with the incredible glow of the bustling street - Las Ramblas. The lights against the dark might night sky remind me of the infinite shades and hues of pops of colors int eh field of this rug against the moody blue backdrop. The border of this piece takes me to the high-energy colors of all the fruits at the markets during the day, but like these colors - it isn't super vibrant and loud - rather soothing and calming. Maybe that's because of my found memories of sitting by the coast in the khaki-white sands listening to the sounds of the water, or perhaps it was the gentle smiles of the locals walking down he street or sitting at a cafe. It's hard to put into words the the parallel of the power of the lattice-vines in this piece and the resemblance they have to the girth and strength of the Sargada Famalia church column-like towers that shoot up to the sky. Such a wonderful trip with memories and views I'll never forget, and looking at this piece takes me back with goosebumps as their beauties are one in the asme to me. This piece is truly a special rug because it's construction matches it's beauty - with its very fine weave it tells us that these artisans took their time crafting this masterpiece; months upon months to weave it all. In addition, the dyes and small-batch process they used to get such sensational colors demands remarking about. They dunk, soak, and leave the hand-spun sheep wool inside these boiling tubes to absorb such clear colors, the main one being the indigo - that's how we get some of the most beautiful, and natural variations of dark blues from true indigo, to navy, inky-blue, midnight blue, and even Oxford blue in this piece. The iconic Lattice design isn't a regular diamond shaped motif that is forgetful and plain - but it is made of chunky and thick rope-like vines that stretch through the piece linked to one another in a very tight and secure fashion - all coming to a lovely focal point of a floral palmette. Inside and around these lattice diamonds you will find erect cypress-like trees growing from the roots to the tree tips in tried and true form signifying the fastest, straightest, and purest way to Heaven (because these weavers say that the strong cypress tree stands so tall that it nearly shoots up to the clouds from the ground). SO many colors this piece contains from rusty and terracotta to Spring and Olive greens with cameos of sky blues, saffron and earthy lemon-like yellows - to the most sensational AMETHYST and soft plum hues you've ever seen. I couldn't make these colors up in my wildest dreams, and the way these artists have put them together dancing inside the antique beige border elevates them to their greatest potential. The design of the border is this incredible meandering vine-to-vine pattern that finds it's way throughout the entire border finessing its way around the ancient Herati-Fish design - and if that wasn't enough - they even found ways to place the Zoroastrian Flame, or Boteh (which we know as Paisley) attached to the vines as if they were the small petals and leaves that grow from them. Amazing hand-spun lamb wool that's so soft to the touch and allows the colors and wool to GLOW - again, back to attention to detail. Symbolism on top of detail, on top of beauty, on top of the most gorgeous color palette, on top of the most charming nomadic iconography, on top of different influences of iconic patterns, on top of incredible size, on top of the remarkable details of copper-binding, and of course the genuine age and perfect character-rich patina. This piece is simply a gem. We have secured the fringe all by hand to ensure that they stay perfectly secured and tidy and this piece has all original binding.  It is in SUPERB condition with expected are-related wear etc.  This CENTURY OLD beauty will not let you down as it is more gorgeous in real life, and will take your space into another dimension - this I promise you.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
