About: YOU WILL GET LOST INSIDE OF THIS AMAZON JUNGLE.  One of the most famous and most sought-after designs EVER woven, this piece has stolen the hearts of Art collectors and Rug Enthusiasts for centuries.  To see one in person is special, as they come with their native characteristics as the weaver's merit is poured into every knot both blatantly and subtly.  What makes this particular piece enter the next level is its sheer size.  13 x 21?! Who? Where? What? When? How? and WHY?! It is a very special piece, to say the least, and to attempt to make sense of it will only make you dizzy.  What I will say, is that it was without a doubt commissioned and woven most likely for a very powerful diplomat, a very wealthy aristocrat family, possibly woven for an important European governing building or commercial lobby, and/or commission by a designer for a private client overseas.  I have got to say, there is something about the rich organic dyes used in this village that are able to somehow soak up every single morsel of wool fiber that is hand-sheered, sorted, dyed, spun, dried, then woven.  Each color looks like 10 shades of the same color; that is due to the quality of dye with the quality of wool.  Organic and all-natural wool with rich and glossy lanolin makes a 3-Dimensional piece of wool look 4-Dimensional!  The rich saffron and sunflower hues, mixed with an earthy honey note adds optimism in this infinitely rich piece.  The heavenly greens add a friendly sentiment to the moody and almost midnight blackish blues that span throughout every square inch.  The blue-greens, ice blues, deep madder root, French and Peacock blues are among some of the most vivid examples we will see of these hues - and the perfect use of antique beige and sunflower give the subconscious mind a "water break" as we dive right back into the relentless adventure this field has for us.  Looking at this carpet it takes me back to my time on a small canoe in the nighttime with my tour guide and two best friends navigating the Erie creeks in the Amazon jungle.  We weren't on the large Amazon River itself, but lurking through the medium shallow waters and seeing the deep red marble eyes of the caymans, the deepest jungle greens decorating the earthy browns of the trees, and of course, the blues as the sun started to fall it illuminated some of the blues with its yellows and oranges and it created a stark contrast with the water that at that point looked like oil.  Every color had a depth to it and every one of my senses was as alert as they ever have been.  This is how I feel when I'm standing on top of this carpet looking into the soul of this living and breathing art - it is as alive as the jungles of the Amazon.  But, of course, in true artisan form, they have surrounded this gorgeous jungle with the most arabesque and artful roots and swirling tails.  Each motif looks like cousins of the next, woven with no template and no blueprint - just imagination and spontaneity.  Even the guard borders outlined in antique beige to add an airy element works so nice dueling as providing contrast as well as a transition from the field to the main border.  Beautiful flowing vines add movement to an already agile piece.  The frame is substantial enough to contain such energy in the field and does an incredible job to allow our eyes to exit the rug on top of the floor.  For clients and/or designers that are placing this piece in a space with furniture - finally, you have a substantial enough piece that won't be swallowed up by the larger pieces of furniture - nor will it feel timid or insecure in a large room with vaulted ceilings or large vantage points across the room in open floor plans.  This piece is true art laying on the floor and elevating anything on it and everything around it to reach their fullest potential of beauty; it will elevate the leathers, woods, metals, marble, linens, softer fabrics, hanging art, and any other item, object, or decorative finishing or fabric/texture around.  Make absolutely no mistake - with just the addition of this piece in your space you've genuinely just entered a completely different universe and you will never look at rugs, art, or design the same way again - welcome to the splendor of antique carpets.

I will write about this piece soon...

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
