About: Incredible piece woven in one of my favorite rug weaving villages on the planet - it has been said that these weavers WET THE WOOL before they weave and tie the knots to get a tighter knot because the wool being wet is thinner, are you kidding me!? So, when the rug dries every knot is so tight and so compact and that is why these specific pieces are known to be the Iron Rugs of the World. ICONIC Love story Pattern known as Herati or the Water Garden, these design depicts two fish swimming around the world looking for one another. This piece has some of the richest and moodiest reds you'll ever see, along with some fantastic charcoal and earthy espressos, and chocolate. Sensational Greens and Blues, of course, as these dyers are some of the best in the world. All-natural dyes are used to get all the color and this piece couldn't be more nomadic with organic hand-spun goat hair used as the foundation of it. Note all the imperfections in the design as the pattern isn't perfect, which is what we crave and why our eyes are drawn to the flaws of objects; there is a familiarity there. As much as we call ourselves "perfectionists" and we strive for perfection, we subconsciously dislike the idea of "perfect" because it isn't real and we are wired for the raw and real! These pieces are nothing short, and then some. True art that transcends the weavers, and us because they will outlast us, hence they become family heirlooms! Circling back to this piece, you will love it as the size is very rare and perfect for a large foyer, a smaller kitchenette or dining area, and of course den, living room, office, or even bedroom. Very old-world piece right here! The rug itself does have some ancient old restoration in one area that has been secured and tidied up by my grandfather. It's always a joy for him to work on these pieces from his country!

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
