Name: STUNNING Antique Northwest "Serapi" Karaja | Ivory-Beige, Pastel Blues, Pink & Greens

Size: 8.7 x 11.7

Age: Antique, C. 1930-40's

Pile: Low / Medium soft pile with amazing dyes. Some AMAZING restoration and re-weaving, some done in slightly different shades that add a wonderful depth, mystery, and story.  Missing pile throughout, this can be re-piled if you want (~ $600-700 for it to be done right) or just take it as is with some distressed-looking age; it is old, after all!

About: An INCREDIBLE piece with amazing age, weave, and beauty.  Where are you finding this Iconic Serapi design in this neighboring village weave?! Ivory/Beige as the main color giving it some wonderful lightness, then anchored with some indigo and navy, only to be decorated throughout with the most gorgeous and interesting pastel blues, sushi salmon-pinks, and amazing Agean Island-Water Greens! Look closely and you'll see charming protective animals woven throughout the open fields, accompanied by geometric arabesque vines with tulips and flora at the tips - MAGNIFICENT!  Some of this piece has been restored all by hand; filled in with foundation, and re-woven one knot at a time - except this time, because it happened many moons after it was originally woven, the master repair people didn't have identical old wool - so they used the closest match they had - which gives us this same color but slightly different shade effect which creates such an incredible story and an infinite birthmark, or should I say battle scar, on this piece's life.  Amazing stuff that can only be done with genuinely old and well-made pieces that stand the teest of time to collect these types of unique and charming nuances.  This is what the splendor of antique carpets is all about!!

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom-cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug-weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
